Which Chip Shops open on Sundays in the Lake District?

If you have been following me for a while, you will know that we regularly visit The Lakes, whether it be for a short glamping holiday or a day’s paddle boarding in the Lake District. We usually take a good picnic with us but after a day on the water, we all find ourselves fancying a visit to the chippy. It isn’t always easy to find a Chip Shop open on a Sunday in the Lake District so we’ve done some research to find the best chip shops open in the Lake District on Sundays.

Why are so many Chip Shops closed on Sundays?

Traditionally, fishing boats did not go out on a Sunday as this was a day of rest. Methods of keeping fish fresh were not as robust as modern day refrigerators so the chip shops were closed as no fresh fish available.

Nowadays, this isn’t the case – It is thought that Chip Shop owners simply want a well earned day off.

In the Lake District, many day trippers and holiday makers will tend to start making their way home late afternoon, so some areas are very quiet around this time leaving little or no custom for the chippies in those areas.

So, which Lake District Chip Shops are open on Sundays?

I have included as much information on each venue as possible. I wasn’t sure about including Google review ratings as these can change but will update this post regularly to keep as accurate as possible. Feel free to contact me on Helen@2Adults3Children.com if you spot something that has changed or if I have missed out something important.

Is there a Chip Shop open in Ambleside on a Sunday?

Yes, there is. Unfortunately, I cannot recommend it. We have been a few times and had terrible service (rude and slow – waiting 20 minutes for chips) and the food was below average. I have been reading recent reviews to see if it has changed but it does not appear to have. I will keep an eye out if the situation changes and update this post accordingly.

    1. You have made me so hungry with this post! I haven’t had a decent chippy in so long! I wanted one recently… on a Saturday and I couldn’t find a chippy that was open, so this post is seriously handy for those who want a weekend chippy!
