We have hired a number of private pools over the years for a variety of reasons and found it a great experience. With so many public swimming pools being closed to the public, sometimes private pool hire is the only way of guaranteeing a good swim.
Why Hire A Private Pool?
A pool to yourself can be great for the following reasons:
- The first time swimming for newborn babies.
- If you are learning to swim and are nervous about being splashed.
- Private birthday party/celebration.
- Practising a particular stroke or technique. It can be difficult to find enough space to practice butterfly or a deep enough pool for diving/artistic swimming in a public pool.
- Different aquatic sports – We often used to hire certain pools when it was coming up to artistic swimming competition time so Millie and her duet partner had the space needed to go through routines.
- Swim teachers often hire their own pool and arrange small group classes or aqua aerobics classes which can produce confident swimmers within a really short time frame.
What to expect when hiring private swimming pools?
Pool Safety First
Some private hire owners insist on you using their lifeguards and therefore include a lifeguard fee as part of the pool rental. Some pool owners do not require a lifeguard or allow you to bring your own (Make sure they are NPLQ qualified). Always best to check in advance.
Maximum Numbers
One to consider if you are hoping to host a birthday or special occasion swim party.
Taking Newborn Babies Swimming
It is still advised that babies have had their 6 week immunisations before taking swimming in any indoor swimming pool – either public or private hire.
Many private pools will not have swim nappies on sale so best to bring your own swim nappy (and a spare!)
What is included with your private hire pool?
Before booking, you should check the list of the features included:
- Do you have access to the changing rooms and shower facilities?
- How should the facilities be left at the end of your session? Do you have to mop down the floors?
- How long is your booking? Most sessions are for 1-2 hours which includes changing time.
- Are there parking areas available?
- Are you allowed to use any toys or flotation devices?
- Do you have access to any music system? (Particularly useful for artistic swimming)
- Is there a hoist available for people with disabilities? Do you have to be trained to use it?
- When will the next booking be allowed in – We have had experiences when the next people have arrived half an hour early and made lots of noise while we are still using the facilities.
- Will you have access to the whole pool or just a part of the pool area?
- Are there any other pool rules that you need to be aware of?
