Simba Hybrid Mattress Review

I cannot express how desperate we were for a new mattress. I have been clinging on to the side of our bed for months now, constantly rotating the mattress that we already had and flipping upside down. Neck pain and disturbed sleep were common place-but yet we didn’t quite get round to replacing our old one. There always seemed to be something else that was more urgent.

Oh wow! The difference a new mattress makes. We have been sleeping on our Simba Hybrid Double Mattress for a couple of weeks now and it’s still a novelty to go to bed. Neck pain has all gone (for years I have blamed this on the wrong type of pillows but it turns out, it’s the mattress) and we are so refreshed after getting proper sleep on a proper mattress. On a few occasions, I’ve actually woken up before the alarm, which is unheard of for me – Definitely not a morning person!

So a bit about the mattress:

What is a Hybrid Mattress?

A Hybrid mattress is a combination of the springs of a traditional mattress with the foam used in contemporary mattresses. The two together result in the most comfortable, long lasting mattress. The Simba Hybrid mattress boasts up to 13 Layers of complete sleep comfort.

Is a Hybrid Mattress firm or soft?

Simba hybrid mattresses are considered to be a medium firm mattress. If you want to make it firmer, Simba suggest adding a mattress topper. Sleep experts do say that if your mattress is too firm, it can contribute to back pain though as your spine and joints are not sinking into the mattress enough.

How long should a good mattress last for?

Every Simba mattress comes with a 10 year guarantee.

Should I flip my mattress?

You do not need to flip your mattress but you should rotate it to give it an even shelf life. Start by rotating every month for the first 3 months, then every 3 months after this.

Delivery and unpacking your Simba Hybrid Mattress

Our mattress arrived by Ao.com who we always find very efficient, reliable and courteous. There will be 2 delivery assistants, who will ask you where you would like your Simba mattress box putting. We chose our dining room as it is not too big (even a double!)

Unpacking a Simba Mattress

The first thing to notice is, when you take your Simba mattress out of the box it will start to unravel straight away. It is noisy too – The plastic packing will creak so remove this to allow your mattress to breathe and start to inflate.

Simba say that it will take a couple of days to fully inflate but your mattress should be ok to sleep on within 3-6 hours. We left ours inflating downstairs overnight.

My Simba mattress has a funny smell -Is this normal?

You will notice a smell (we described it as a bit like toast) for the first 24 hours but this is completely normal and it will disappear quickly.

Is Simba Mattress packaging recyclable?

Yes! The plastic packaging is actually already 35% recycled but you can also recycle this afterwards.

The plastic wrap is classed as LDPE4 plastic so needs to go to a local drop off point (Most major supermarkets). You can find your nearest recycling centre at www.recyclenow.com.

Will Simba take away my old mattress?

Yes they will. It does not have to be the same size or even a Simba mattress. We did not use this service as one of our girls is having our old mattress (God knows, she wants it, it’s awful!) so cannot comment on how efficient this service is.

How to care for your Simba Hybrid Mattress

How tall is a Simba mattress?

10 inches tall (25cm). You can use a normal sheet to cover it but it definitely does feel taller when you lie in it. This might just be us getting used to it though.
