You may remember my Autumn Days post from last year, when I was talking about treasuring our weekends and how rare they are to spend time together. Well, we’ve decided to try things a little differently this year – Instead of being separate every Sunday afternoon when one parent treks to Leeds with Millie for training – we are all going to go. We are calling these our Special Family Sundays.
I know that the youngest 2 are not going to be in the slightest bit delighted to be poolside watching their sister so the big search is on to find entertainment outside.
How we are spending our Sunday afternoons during 2017:
It was the first of our Sundays this weekend and it went brilliantly. We discovered a short walk in Mirfield near the pool where Millie was swimming. We donned our walking boots, winter woolies & compulsory drinks bottle and off we went. Tara & Violet were sceptical at first, I won’t lie. Before we knew it, though, they were skipping through leaves, squelching in mud and happy as the proverbial Larry.
They were talking, Me & Mr C were talking and it was just lovely. It definitely helped that it was dry and mild for January but we were prepared even if the weather was inclement.
The walk crosses over a golf course, which the girls found fascinating. We would never have had a conversation about golf at home but get a family outside and all of a sudden we are discussing new subjects. We obviously didn’t let them walk on the important bits but the girls got near enough to discover how a ball drops into the hole and how tall the flag is. Bonus moment when Tara found a split golf ball and they could see what is inside. That golf ball has been taken into Year 1 today to show everyone.
We finished our simple yet lovely afternoon with a trip for a Hot Chocolate and a perfectly timed visit to watch the last 10 minutes of synchro training.
A completely gorgeous afternoon, very cheap, very simple but perfectly family. It may not have got homework done, but I know what we got the most out of.
